I've never played any of those "chamber" games on the Wii (two hours on the stand in the store doesn't count but I don't like them. All that jumping, waving arms and legs...
Well, look for yourself:
Despite this, I couldn't pass by the CamSpace program. At least because it is free... and quite original.
CamSpace is a program that allows you to control computer applications (mostly games) using gestures or movements of objects. In order to start using CamSpace, you need to have a computer and a regular webcam. CamSpace successfully copes with control in many games that usually require active work with a mouse or joystick.
Here's how it works: If previously the shopify website design range of applications supported by CamSpace was limited to a couple of solitaire games for Windows, the arcade Zuma Deluxe and several simple racing simulators, now the interested user has at his disposal a much larger number of games. The developers report support for even such well-known games as TrackMania and NFS: ProStreet.
The program uses CamTrax technology, which can track moving objects (up to four at a time) in real time and with a high level of accuracy. This allows for support of games in which two players can play.
Unfortunately, CamSpace has only English interface language. Initial setup of the program, despite its simplicity, is very verbose, so it would be useful to consider some of its stages.
After installation, when you first launch the program, you need to activate CamSpace. To do this, enter your email address in the form provided and click "Done":
If you don't want to do this, click on "Remind me Later". The program can work without activation, but will constantly remind you of its necessity.
The user can then go one of two ways - either go through several steps of initial familiarization with the program, or simply start playing:
I always prefer decisive actions so let's try to dive right into the game. Just let's get acquainted with some recommendations:
- It is recommended to provide good lighting in the room where you will play.
- Shiny or transparent objects should not be used as a virtual manipulator. It should stand out in color from the background (and your clothes).
- For better motion capture of several objects, they should be of different colors.
Now you can play. Click on the "Not Now" button, and then on the large "Select a Game" icon. A window will open with a list of installed games. By default, there are not many of them (only one). Additional games can be downloaded from the CamSpace website. After launching one of the installed games, you will need to configure the camera to the object with which you will control the game.
If you don't pay attention to some not fully worked out details of CamSpace itself (after all, it is still in the "beta" stage), and glitches of some of the games, then the program works quite stably. In any case, if the above conditions are met, there is no need to swear.
So, if the program interests you, download it. Install it, play it… Maybe you’ll like it, maybe it’ll stay… I remain a conservative. The mouse and keyboard are somehow more familiar.
